Michigan Care Conference
Creates Impacts
On October 27–28 Jim Kok spoke at a Care and Kindness conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which was a resounding success with over 225 attending. Pastor Bill VandenBosch and his wife Lyn, of the Oakdale Park Christian Reform Church, organized the event, which was co-sponsored by Calvin Seminary. Pastor VandenBosch polled the audience and most of them affirmed that they had been changed by attending the workshops and the plenary sessions.
Then on Sunday morning, Jim spoke again in the Worship Service, where he was able to focus remarks toward the congregation that contained a large number of kids. Later, a friend of Jim’s sent him a note about a couple of youth, ages 10 and 12, who had been impacted.
Ed and Judy Adams, from Noblesville, Indiana, brought with them a group of 9 people who were charged up because they have been studying Jim Kok’s book, The Miracle of Kindness, in their Small Group. They asked for time on stage during the conference and presented Jim with a beautiful monogrammed prayer blanket, which was then placed in the church’s prayer room for the duration of the event. Ed Adams reports: “Jim Kok’s passion for this “fruit of the Spirit” called ‘Kindness’ was felt by everyone. Every word, every motion of his body, as Jim was sharing his message, was filled with energy and passion that resonated throughout the sanctuary. Quite frankly, I was concerned the stage might not contain Jim as he delivered his talk with such fervor. Judy and I were mesmerized by Jim’s knowledge of people’s feelings and needs; and ways we as Christians can practice kindness everywhere our daily lives lead us.”
