Sydney Care Conference
Considered Total Success

The School of Christian Studies (SOCS) at Robert Menzies College
in Sydney, Australia, hosted its first Care Conference, entitled
“Empowered To Care”, on September 27 – 30, 2006.

This first international “child” of the annual Care and Kindness Conference was the result of the efforts and vision of Sydney resident James Bates, who attended the conference at the Crystal Cathedral in 2004. The format of the conference was a European style, consisting largely of formal lectures, so Jim Kok’s more informal, conversational and spontaneous presentation was a bit of a contrast. Attendees were very enthusiastic, however, about the entire 4-day event and felt that they learned many valuable ideas.

Four Steering Committee members, Jan and Pete Petereit, Craig and Debbie Bourne, traveled from California with Dr. Kok and his wife, Linda, to offer their assistance to the SOCS staff. They particularly enjoyed assisting with Morning and Afternoon Tea, which was part of the schedule every day.

The six “Californians”, as they were known by the conference people, enjoyed some sight-seeing before and after the conference. Here are some of their photos from the trip.
