The Ripple Effect A Care and Kindness Resolution Our last issue of the Care Capsule included several short examples of how the vision of Care and Kindness is spreading and is being implemented. We received the following letter from Bud (Orlando) Katter, Jr. in Fort Mill, SC. I just got my Care Capsule, so I didn’t know about your writing about “The Ripple Effect.” Let me tell you about “The Ripple Effect” in South Carolina. Marianne Hickman and I attended the Care & Kindness Conference in March and came back and started a Care & Kindness Ministry at our church, River Hills Community Church, Lake Wylie, SC. We developed a training course of 5 sessions; trained 15 lay people as Care Givers; commissioned them with a distinct pin to wear; assigned them to people needing care — Care Receivers; and we receive periodic reports from them to update our status sheets. We have a Care & Kindness voice mail box on the church phone number; we have a Care Giver available in a chapel during the 10:30 services for people to bring in concerns or to request a prayer for a needing person; we have messages on S.A.C.K. in the monthly church newsletter; and we are starting another training class shortly. We have a team sending out cards to sick and grieving people on our list; we’ve solicited the support of the entire congregation in providing the cards. We’ve contacted the Youth Group to solicit counselors as well as the Catholic Church that meets in our building. We are making a difference in our church. We plan to have
Bev Michielson come on 25 April to give a message/concert and to raise
awareness of the need for Care and Kindness in the entire community. I think our “ripple” has become a “wave.” Thanks
for your inspiration. You can keep the ripple going! The printing costs and postage for the Care Capsule have been steadily rising over the years. One option we have considered is to institute a subscription fee — but we would prefer to continue making it available for free to everyone interested. We thought we would first ask for help. Would you be willing to make a donation to help underwrite the cost of the Care Capsule? Your help will ensure that the Ripple is being spread as broadly as possible.
